Playa Blanca, Lanzarote — surf and SUP on crystal clear water

Playa Blanca, Lanzarote

Gateway to the finest beaches in the Canary Islands

A Village Unlike Any Other

Playa Blanca sits at the very southern tip of Lanzarote, where the island tapers to a narrow point facing Fuerteventura. What was once a sleepy fishing hamlet has grown into one of the Canaries' most beloved resort towns — yet it has held on to its unhurried character. A car-free promenade stretches along the seafront, lined with whitewashed houses, palm trees and colourful fishing boats bobbing in the harbour.

The climate is outstanding. Sitting in the lee of the central mountains, the south enjoys more sun and calmer conditions than the north, with year-round temperatures rarely dropping below 18 °C. The Atlantic keeps things cool in summer and mild in winter, making Playa Blanca genuinely pleasant to visit in any month.

The surrounding volcanic landscape is dramatic — black lava fields, blindingly white salt flats and the jagged silhouette of Famara ridge all visible on a clear day. It's a place that rewards slow exploration on foot, by bike or out on the water.

The Best Beaches

Playa Blanca Town Beach

Playa Blanca Town Beach

The sheltered town beach sits directly in front of the promenade. Calm, clear water and soft sand make it ideal for families and first-time swimmers. The gentle waves here are where we hold many of our beginner surf and SUP sessions.

Playa de los Flamencos

Playa de los Flamencos

A short walk west of the marina, Los Flamencos is a wide, golden crescent backed by low dunes. The water is shallow for a long stretch — great for children and for early-morning paddle boarding when the sea is like glass.

Las Coloradas

Las Coloradas

Continue west past Los Flamencos and you reach Las Coloradas, one of Lanzarote's quietest and most photogenic beaches. Reddish volcanic rock frames pale sand and turquoise water. Worth the extra fifteen-minute walk.

Playas de Papagayo

Playas de Papagayo

A natural park protecting a series of hidden coves — Playa de la Cera, Playa Mujeres, El Pozo — with the clearest water in Lanzarote. Accessible by dirt track from Playa Blanca, these are our base for SUP excursions into the sea caves.

Ferry to Fuerteventura

Ferries depart from Playa Blanca marina several times daily to Corralejo on Fuerteventura (30 min crossing). Excellent surf breaks and beaches on both sides of the strait.

Timanfaya Day Trip

Lanzarote's volcanic national park is 30 minutes north of Playa Blanca. Guided bus tours across the lava fields with eruption demonstrations — a jaw-dropping experience unlike anything in Europe.

Our Home Base

Kaboti Surf has been based in Playa Blanca since the school opened. Our office is a short walk from the seafront, which makes dropping in, picking up equipment or asking about conditions easy.

From here we can reach surf breaks across the entire island — north coast spots like Famara and La Santa in under an hour — so we always take you where the surf is best on the day. If conditions at one beach are poor, we adapt. You get the best session possible, not just the closest beach to our door.
